Automation Engineer
Location: Dungannon, Co. Tyrone
Salary: Up to £60,000 + 10% annual bonus
The Opportunity
We’re working with a leading heavy goods manufacturer who are continuing to grow and invest in their engineering function.
They’re now looking to bring in an Automation Engineer to support the development of advanced control systems across a range of bespoke machinery.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to be hands-on with projects, working across design, integration and optimisation, not just sat programming in isolation.
The Role
You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering control systems that drive performance, reliability and safety across complex equipment.
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
- Designing, programming and configuring PLC software for industrial systems
- Debugging, testing and validating control logic to meet performance standards
- Working closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate PLCs into full system architecture
- Supporting integration with HMI, telematics and vehicle control systems
- Analysing and improving existing control logic to drive efficiency and reliability
- Troubleshooting faults and implementing corrective actions to minimise downtime
- Managing backups, version control and safety interlocks
- Producing clear technical documentation including ladder logic, I/O lists and system configs
- Using vehicle communication tools such as CANalyzer / CAN-based systems
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards and ISO9001 processes
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in PLC programming within a manufacturing/consultancy environment
- Strong understanding of control systems and system integration
- Experience working with HMI, telematics or vehicle-based systems is a big plus
- Ability to fault-find and optimise systems in a practical environment
- Familiarity with CAN-based tools (e.g. CANalyzer, CANfox) desirable
