Health and Safety Officer

Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland

About Our Client: Our client is a leading player in the construction industry, committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety across all projects. They are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join their team and contribute to their ongoing success.

Role Overview: The Health and Safety Officer is an integral part of our client's team, responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and stakeholders. This position is site-based and will involve overseeing various projects across Northern Ireland. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust health and safety practices in line with company policies and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the continual development and implementation of the Health & Safety policy to uphold safe working practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including COSHH and Manual Handling, and develop appropriate safe systems of work.
  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive training matrix for employees, ensuring all training needs are identified and addressed.
  • Support the maintenance of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor compliance with HSE requirements and develop corrective action plans where necessary.
  • Coordinate external inspections and audits, including plant insurance policy statutory inspections.
  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and complaints of ill health, implementing preventative actions for future incidents.
  • Monitor subcontractors to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records related to HSE management and complete all necessary administrative tasks.
  • Address employee safety concerns and facilitate consultations on health and safety matters.
  • Evaluate new materials for compliance with HSE requirements and oversee the correct installation and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  • Enforce company policies related to fire safety, drugs and alcohol, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Stay updated on new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of HSE regulations and guidance.
  • Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance of company fleet.
  • Undertake any other duties as agreed with the Health and Safety Manager.

Essential Criteria:

  • NEBOSH Management of Health & Safety Certificate.
  • 2+ years of equivalent experience in a Health & Safety role.
  • Strong understanding of HSE legislation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to company improvement projects.
  • Full, clean driving license.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, and the UK as required.
