Job Overview:

A Health and Safety Advisor is required to join the health and safety team on a major 300-unit mixed-use development project in Blanchardstown, Dublin. This exciting project will run until 2028 and provides an excellent opportunity for professionals seeking to work on a large-scale construction development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment across the construction site, providing guidance on health and safety matters, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies. The role includes working closely with a Junior Health and Safety Advisor and a Senior Health and Safety Advisor to implement effective safety measures on-site.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Health and Safety Guidance:

Provide health and safety support and advice to project teams, subcontractors, and site workers, ensuring that safety is at the forefront of all operations.

• Site Inspections and Audits:

Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify safety risks and ensure compliance with safety standards. Take immediate corrective actions to address safety hazards.

• Risk Assessments & Method Statements:

Support in the development, review, and implementation of risk assessments, method statements, and other safety documentation. Ensure they are updated as necessary to reflect changes on-site.

• Safety Training:

Coordinate and deliver health and safety inductions, training sessions, and toolbox talks to all site personnel, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge to work safely.

• Incident and Accident Investigation:

Assist in investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses on-site. Compile detailed reports with findings and actionable recommendations for future prevention.

• Regulatory Compliance:

Monitor and ensure adherence to all relevant health and safety regulations, ensuring full compliance with construction industry standards and local legislation.

• Collaboration and Reporting:

Work closely with the Senior and Junior Health and Safety Advisors to ensure the effective implementation of health and safety policies. Prepare reports for senior management and ensure that safety documentation is up to date.

• Safety Culture Promotion:

Foster a culture of safety across the site, encouraging workers to report hazards and unsafe practices. Promote continuous improvement and a proactive approach to risk management.

• Emergency Procedures:

Assist with the development of emergency response plans for the site, ensuring all workers are familiar with procedures and actions in the event of an emergency.

 

Key Requirements:

Qualifications:

o NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (minimum).

o First Aid at Work qualification (desirable).

o Health and Safety-related degree or equivalent qualification (desirable).

o Membership of a professional body (e.g., IOSH) is an advantage.

Experience:

o Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a health and safety role within the construction industry, preferably with exposure to large-scale projects.

o Familiarity with health and safety regulations, particularly in relation to construction sites (e.g., CDM regulations, HSE guidelines).

o Experience in conducting safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

o Experience working in a collaborative team environment with both junior and senior advisors.

Skills:

o Strong knowledge of construction site health and safety standards and legislation.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage with a range of stakeholders from workers to senior management.

o High attention to detail, with the ability to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks.

o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

o Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

o Competence in using health and safety software and documentation tools.

Support Structure:

• Junior Health and Safety Advisor:

The Health and Safety Advisor will be supported by a Junior Health and Safety Advisor, who will assist in day-to-day safety activities, site inspections, and administrative duties related to safety documentation.

• Senior Health and Safety Advisor:

The successful candidate will work closely with a Senior Health and Safety Advisor, who will provide leadership and expertise on more complex health and safety issues, offer guidance, and assist in professional development.
