Maintenance Chargehand – Manufacturing (Co. Cavan)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Maintenance Chargehand for a leading manufacturing facility in County Cavan. This role offers a unique "50/50" split: 50% hands-on maintenance on the tools and 50% leadership, planning, and administrative duties.

This is a pivotal role for a senior technician ready to take the next step into a leadership position while maintaining their technical edge.

Core Responsibilities

Hands-On Technical (50%)

  • Maintenance Execution: Lead from the front in performing preventative (PPM) and reactive maintenance on high-speed production machinery.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical faults, acting as the senior point of escalation for the shift team.

  • System Optimization: Implement machine upgrades and modifications to improve reliability and reduce downtime.

Leadership & Management (50%)

  • Team Supervision: Coordinate the daily tasks of the maintenance team, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet production demands.

  • Planning & Scheduling: Manage the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System), scheduling work orders and tracking spare parts inventory.

  • Safety & Compliance: Oversee site safety protocols, including the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for maintenance activities.

  • Training: Mentor and develop junior technicians and apprentices, fostering a culture of technical excellence.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualification: Fully qualified Electrician or Fitter (National Craft Certificate or equivalent).

  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, ideally within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Leadership: Previous experience as a Lead Tech, Team Lead, or Chargehand is highly desirable.

  • Technical Skills: Strong multi-skilled ability (Electrical/Mechanical) and familiarity with PLC-controlled systems.

  • Attributes: Excellent organisational skills and the ability to balance office-based administrative tasks with hands-on workshop requirements.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: €65,000 – €75,000 per annum (Negotiable based on experience).
