Mechanical Design Engineer (Bespoke Steel & Fabrication) – Co. Kerry

 

Talent Curve Recruitment is managing a search for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading heavy steel fabrication and precision engineering specialist based in County Kerry.

 

This permanent, office-and-workshop-based role is a fantastic opportunity for a practical, design-focused engineer to take technical ownership of bespoke engineering projects—including precast concrete mould systems and structural steel solutions—from initial concept to the production floor.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • 3D Design: Develop complex 3D models and assemblies for steel structures and precision steel mould systems using SolidWorks.

  • DFM Optimisation: Optimise designs specifically for heavy structural steel fabrication, welding, CNC folding, and laser cutting.

  • Technical Drafting: Produce high-quality 2D fabrication drawings, general arrangement layouts, assembly details, and weld maps.

  • BOM Management: Generate and manage accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the ERP system to ensure streamlined procurement.

  • Workshop Liaison: Act as the primary technical link to the production floor, collaborating with fabricators and welders to resolve build-phase queries.

  • Project Coordination: Work directly with clients to manage design timelines and ensure compliance with strict safety and quality standards.

 

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional design experience in steel fabrication, heavy machinery, or agricultural engineering (not open to recent graduates).

  • Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks is essential; AutoCAD and ERP software experience is highly desirable.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of steel grades, welding standards, and sheet metal folding allowances (K-factors).

  • Logistics: Full, clean Irish/EU driving licence.

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: €50,000 – €60,000 per annum (Negotiable based on experience).
