The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a reputable groundworks and civil engineering contractor seeking an experienced Civil Site Supervisor to join their team in East Cork. This role is focused on overseeing the civil engineering and groundworks phases of large-scale housing developments, ensuring all infrastructure—including roads, drainage, and utilities—is delivered to the highest standards.

This is a key leadership position for a hands-on supervisor who can effectively manage site teams and sub-contractors while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality protocols.

Core Responsibilities

  • Site Supervision: Directly oversee all civil and groundworks activities, ensuring works are carried out in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and project timelines.
  • Groundworks & Infrastructure: Manage the installation of deep drainage, attenuation systems, water mains, and utility ducting, as well as the construction of roads, kerbs, and footpaths.
  • Sub-contractor Management: Coordinate and monitor the performance of groundworks sub-contractors, ensuring clear communication of daily targets and quality expectations.
  • Health & Safety: Act as a champion for site safety, conducting daily briefings, ensuring full compliance with the site safety plan, and maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of civil works, managing the "snagging" process and ensuring all installations meet local authority and BCAR requirements.
  • Resource Coordination: Manage the delivery and storage of materials and the efficient deployment of plant and machinery on-site.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate site diaries, progress reports, and safety records to support the project management team.

Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering or groundworks, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/foreman capacity on residential or large-scale civil projects.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of drainage systems, road construction, and site set-out procedures.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate site crews and manage sub-contractors effectively.
  • Safety: Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates. Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation specific to construction is essential.
  • Attributes: Excellent problem-solving skills, a practical "can-do" attitude, and a full, clean driving licence.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: €65,000 – €80,000 per annum (Negotiable based on project experience and specific civil expertise).
  • Benefits: Company vehicle or fuel allowance, contributory pension, and performance-related bonus scheme.
  • Location: East Cork
