Safety Officer – Data Centre Project

Salary: €50,000 - €65,000 per annum

Our client, a leading Main Contractor in the Irish construction sector, is currently seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join their team on a prestigious Data Centre project in West Dublin. The role offers an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile, large-scale development while ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
The Role:
As a Safety Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all health and safety protocols and regulations are adhered to on-site. Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager, you will play a key role in promoting a culture of safety, conducting regular site audits, providing safety inductions, and liaising with various teams to address safety concerns. Your role will involve close coordination with Site Management to ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting regular and comprehensive site inspections and audits in line with the Safety Management System
- Maintaining records of statutory inspections for all activities, machinery, and equipment on site
- Handling statutory notifications to the Health & Safety Authority and liaising with inspectors as required
- Leading and delivering Health & Safety induction programmes for new employees and contractors
- Managing PPE requirements and ensuring proper use across the site
- Assisting Site Management with compiling cost records and forecasts related to Health & Safety, including training, PPE, and other safety-related expenses
- Organising and facilitating site safety meetings, ensuring all relevant safety issues are addressed
- Reviewing and ensuring compliance with subcontractors' Safety Statements
- Supporting Site Management in drafting and reviewing Method Statements for specific tasks
- Maintaining and updating site Emergency Plans, ensuring all staff are trained and prepared for emergency situations
- Managing accident investigations, preparing statutory notifications, and keeping the Group Safety Manager informed
- Ensuring First Aid facilities are well-stocked, and first aiders are available when needed
- Compiling relevant safety information for the Safety File, ensuring smooth handover to the client at project completion
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- A Health and Safety qualification (e.g., Certificate, Diploma, or Degree) is essential
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Safety Officer role within the construction sector, ideally with large-scale projects
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and legislation, particularly within the construction industry
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and lead by example
- Experience in conducting site inspections, audits, and health & safety training sessions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently to achieve health and safety objectives
